Proper healthcare is undeniably one of the most important aspects to people living today. Healthcare in this country is a topic of controversy and criticism and has been an on-going battle for many years. As flawed as the system may be at the moment, it plays an enormous role to people of all ages and backgrounds.
To provide effective and responsible medical care is a huge responsibility for those that carry out the medical services. I view medical providers as compassionate and goodwilling people who oftentimes go beyond the call of duty to relieve the pain of another person. The patient instills a lot of trust in those who are there to treat him/her and it is the patient’s right to expect to be treated with dignity and to feel better leaving the facility than when they first came in.
For most people, the hospital is a very uncomfortable setting, and I believe it is imperative for hospital workers to not only effectively treat patients but also to set their minds at ease as much as possible. This is sometimes made difficult due to hospital overcrowding, but it is not an impossible task. Treating people with simple respect and recognizing that they are fellow humans in need of care will reduce their nervousness and lessen the uncomfortability of being hospitalized. Proper medical attention is primary in importance, but there is also no substitute for treating patients humanely, not as obstacles to get through.
I believe it is very rewarding to help people relieve their physical pain and I’m genuinely interested in a profession that would involve that. I want a career that would challenge me, offer unlimited opportunities and allow me to work with people. I’m very interested in Physical Therapy; I volunteered at a PT’s office and enjoyed it immensely. Physical Therapy is a profession that is growing in importance and expanding its scope of practice. It is a viable career, it’s rather stable and there will always be jobs available in the future. It is also a very humane occupation; it involves dealing with people on a personal level to relieve their physical troubles.
